Licensed master social worker Vasavi Kumar describes herself as “your kick-in-the-pants guide en route to your desired destination.” With an out-of-the-box, rebellious approach, she inspires people to find freedom from their past to take charge of their future. A certified life coach, speaker and author, Vasavi teaches people how to propel their lives, careers and well-being to the next level and beyond. Vasavi holds dual masters degrees, in Special Education from Hofstra University, and Social Work from Columbia University. She is a Certified Coach through Accomplishment Coaching, an International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited school. Creator of the mindset training program, Source of Your Success, her teachings flow out of her life experience.

She spent her formative years striving to be a “good girl” and even spent a year in India serving as a teacher to survivors of sex trafficking. But without a clear sense of her own identity, Vasavi found herself as a young woman caught up in drugs, alcohol and relationships. She faced her biggest challenge in December, 2002, when she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She turned to a blend of Eastern and Western medicine and spiritual practice, and surrounding herself with a strong support network. Through her faith and the principles of perseverance, strength, and devotion, she found freedom to build the life of her dreams.

Vasavi and her husband Ashish currently live in Austin, TX where Vasavi is enrolled in vegetarian culinary school at The Natural Epicurean Academy of Culinary Arts. Prior to moving to Austin, Vasavi appeared regularly on Kansas City Live on 41 Action News (NBC), answering viewers’ life questions as the “Keepin’ It Real Guru.” She is coauthor, in collaboration with Sandra Yancey, Marcia Weider, Lisa Sasevich and Lisa Nichols, of the bestselling book, Succeeding in Spite of Everything. She’s been featured in The Wall Street Journal and is a guest contributor at TheDailyLove.com. As former host of the radio program Deep Talk, she interviewed change agents such as John Gray, Neale Donald Walsch, Ali Brown, Sonia Choquette and Lisa Nichols. She has a particular passion for helping women entrepreneurs integrate personal and professional success, and as an advocate for the needs of people suffering mental illness.
