Why Your Ego is a Good Thing, You SHOULD Be Hurt By Criticism, and Other White Hot Truths From Danielle LaPorte

My conversation with Danielle today is pulled straight from inside Mentor Masterclass, at a point when many of the women in the program struggle with their own conflicting patterns and beliefs around what they know to be true, and what’s just not working for them in their coaching practices.

New coaches are often faced with that feeling of, “I don’t know what I don’t know.”

As we work through these stages of launching a life coach business, plenty of questions come up for the women in the program, including:

• What’s guiding my decisions – is it my ego or my soul?

• Am I being too masculine or too feminine in my approach?

• What does feminine leadership really look like, and how can I integrate it into coaching practice and my life?

• Should I focus more on my family or more or my business right now?

I’ve learned that you need to hear options from a diverse and aligned panel of thought leaders in order to discover the business model that is truly aligned with your unique essence. This is what separates Mentor Masterclass from every other life coach training program.  

I’m not trying to tell you what you should do, I’m offering you the resources to discover your true calling and resonant work in the world. I shared these questions with Danielle during her Mentor Masterclass training (as I do with every other mentor you’ll work with inside the program) and her thoughtful responses were full of her signature #truthbombs. Danielle teaches that your ego is a wonderful thing – we have to have an ego because we have to have personalities and most of us have a business persona (a version of our own personalities that comes out when we work with clients).

Your persona is very much connected to who you are. The problem comes when your persona has nothing to do with your truth. Your persona should be an amplification of your truth and for that to happen, you’ll need to call in your ego.

Your ego becomes a negative force when you’re preventing yourself from changing, feeling things, or being hurt. If you’re not careful, you can fall into the trap of receiving negative feedback and prevent yourself from being hurt by it.

And if you’re not being hurt by criticism, something is very wrong. (Danielle explains this as only she can.)

When it comes to the masculine vs. feminine aspects of your business and your life, Danielle assures us that, eventually, the struggle between masculine and feminine won’t come up anymore, because you won’t care whether something you’re doing is masculine or feminine.

The struggle will be over because you’ll say to yourself, this is where my heart is.

The feminine is inclusive and nurturing. The masculine is directive and assertive. Who doesn’t want to be both of those things? Embrace them and integrate them into your business and who you are.
